HFH Armenia targets at serving 600 new families in Yerevan and the regions of Armenia
YEREVAN, ARMENIA (24 June, 2010)-- In its efforts to offer affordable housing solutions to low-income families in Armenia in need of decent housing conditions, Habitat for Humanity Armenia has recently launched several projects in various regions of Armenia.
Dedicated
to serving an increasing number of families in need of simple,
decent, and affordable homes, HFH Armenia is presently implementing
housing intervention and housing micro finance projects
in Yerevan, as well as in the regions of Ararat, Lori, Tavush,
Gegharkunik, and the city of Spitak.
“We
are committed to expanding our work in Armenia, where adequate
shelter is desperately needed,” says HFH Armenia Executive
Director Irina Vanyan during a Press Conference held at
the Congress Hotel today, June 24, 2010. “The HFH
Armenia program aims at providing the most cost effective
solutions for our partner families in helping themselves
improve their housing conditions.”
“For
the first time since the independence of Armenia, our new
partner families have the opportunity to improve their homes
and their lives, thanks to the housing micro loans provided
by HFH Armenia,” says Narine Terzyan, HFH Armenia
Housing Finance Manager. “Housing micro finance is
a new concept for low-income families in Armenia and one
of the long-term objectives of Habitat Armenia is to offer
the opportunity of benefiting from housing micro finance
at the scale of the whole country.”
“Social
housing is another innovative project that Habitat Armenia
is involved into. The initiative, titled social housing
Program in Armenia, will be implemented by a consortium
of three Armenian organizations in partnership with several
Dutch organizations experienced in the housing sector. The
ultimate goal of the project is to develop institutional
foundations for promoting and developing social housing
in Armenia.
“In
spite of the unprecedented growth of housing construction
in Armenia in the last decade, the housing needs of low
and middle income families were not addressed. These families,
who have no means to buy a house or are ineligible for housing
mortgages, are the target partners of the Social Housing
Program in Armenia,” says Ms. Vanyan.
HFH Armenia has served 126 partner
families in the past year, thus reaching the total number
of families served in Armenia since 2000 to about 580 families.
Within the sphere of the presented projects, the organization
targets at serving another 600 partner families in the coming
year.
